But the premier surely realises that his other goal -- unity building -- is fraught with problems. But members of the PDRC, founded by ex-Democrat Party kingmaker Suthep Thaugsuban, remain charged and have yet to be prosecuted. Gen Prayut denied the claims and told Mr Suthep to never make such statements again. The legal inconsistencies and judicial failings perceived by so much of the country mean that true reconciliation is unlikely. The only real promise that Gen Prayut and fellow coup supporters made when they seized power was to "return happiness" by bringing about national unity.
